I was shaking when I got outside. How could this woman know about Mulo and I? I desperately needed to speak with him. I called the number I found on the paperwork from the bank.
"Hello."
My stomach twisted in a knot when the voice on the other side was a woman. Trying not to cry I replied
"Yes, I'm looking for Mulo Drakul please."
"May I ask who's calling?"
"Um...yes this is Amari Vinson." There was a short silence then she said "One moment please."
I heard the clicking of heels as she walked away from the phone.
A few moments later I heard his voice.
"Hello, Amari." just hearing his voice was a relief.
"I need to see you." I said softly as tears streamed down my cheeks. There was a pause on the other end.
"Of course. Drive the the Adobe Heights building. I'll meet you in the lobby." The phone went dead.
When I arrived at the building he was there waiting in the lobby. As if knowing what I needed, he pulled me into an embrace.
"Please." I begged "Please tell me what's going on."
"Now is not the right time." He voice was so smooth, so steady.
"How can you say that? I am pregnant with your child."
"Do you love me?"
"Yes", I whispered.
"Then if you love me, you must also trust me. I promised you answers and you will get them, just not now."
He reached down and placed a hand on my stomach.
"Why? Why can't you tell me now?"
Instead of answering me, he pulled me into a kiss. "Please" I said not wanting to let go "At least tell me when I will see you again."
"You should go now." was his only response. Wiping the tears from my face, I turned to leave. I looked back to catch one last glimpse of him but he was gone. I drove home feeling like I did at the end of all our encounters, confused. I just wanted answers, that is all I have asked of him yet it is the one thing he continues to deny me.
The days turned into weeks and I had no communications from him. I had taken to just emailing my parents. I somehow convinced myself that lying to them electronically was better than doing it over the phone.
They now believed I was working at the local art gallery as a research assistant. My pregnancy continued on smoothly. I took comfort in knowing I had a part of Mulo with me since he still was making no contact.
I would call the number I had for him. The same woman always answered and told me he was unavailable.
I would even drive by the building but never got any answer when I buzzed the call box. I spent my time painting. It was always a good distraction.
I also spent a lot of time napping. It helped me not be so lonely in this big empty house with only my thoughts. It was also because occasionally he would come to me in my dreams. I was having one of these mid day naps when I awoke having sharp pains. It took me a minute to realize it but I was in labor.
Why isn't he contacting her. I feel so sorry for her.
ReplyDeleteShe has cut herself off from her family, and she is going through her pregnancy completely alone!
I can't imagine how lonely she must feel! He better have a very good explanation for what's going on!
ReplyDeletePoor Amari :( I wish she had just a small clue about what was happening! She has spent 9 months in the dark and alone and Mulo is treating her like some stranger he can use when he wants! I need to know! He has to come clean!
ReplyDeleteThose two have a weird relationship, at least she knows he's willing to take care of her.
ReplyDeleteOh she is so lonely, at least she has money.
ReplyDeletehahaha yeah she is pretty set with money
DeleteI know he's buying her all this stuff but that's not good enough! He's being very unfair to her, I feel so bad for the poor woman :/
ReplyDeletebring on baby 1!! :D
Mulo does what Mulo wants to do. That's really all I can say about him. She's just expected to go along and not question it.
Deletebaby #1 on the way.
